The central development branch of Nintendo's internal hardware and technology development was established on September 16th, 2015 through the merger of the Integrated Research & Development Division (IRD) and the System Development Division (SYS) of Nintendo Co., Ltd. This R&D branch focuses on the production, development, and coordination of platform related technology across various dedicated gaming platforms and mobile platforms. Integrating resources and personnel between Kyoto and Tokyo, the development army currently spans over 400 employees with additional contract and affiliated personnel joining production cycles throughout the development of various products. Platform development is divided within several production departments and groups, each under the management of venerable producer, staffing key core team members that additionally share a large pool of supplemental personnel during full scale production. Product creation ranges from complete internal development, prototype development, multi-developer co-development, to production and planning with external agencies. |
