The central development branch of Nintendo's internal software development was established on September 16th, 2015 through the merger of the Entertainment Analysis & Development Division (EAD) and the Software Planning & Development Division (SPD) of Nintendo Co., Ltd. This R&D branch focuses on the production, development, and coordination of software throughout various dedicated platforms and mobile platforms. Integrating resources and personnel between Kyoto and Tokyo, the development army currently spans over 800 employees with additional contract and affiliated personnel joining production cycles throughout the development of various products. Software development is divided within several production departments and groups, each under the management of venerable producer, staffing key core team members that additionally share a large pool of supplemental personnel during full scale production. Product creation ranges from complete internal development, prototype development, multi-developer co-development, to production and planning with external agencies.
