Kung Fu is a licensed port of Kung Fu Master originally developed by Irem Corp. for the arcades. This Famicom and Nintendo Entertainment System follows an identical template to the arcade original, but features completely rehauled pixel art.

In this action side-scrolling beat'em up, the player controls the main character by punching with the A button and kicking with the B button. Either move can be done from a standing, crouching or jumping position. Punches are worth twice as much as kicks and do twice as much damage, but their range is shorter.

The protagonist of the game is named Thomas, on a quest to rescure his girlfriend Sylvia from the evil Mr. X and his minions guarding the hideout. The setting is a gang ridden temple with five floors. Each of the five floors ends with a different boss who must be defeated before climbing up the stairs to the next floor. Each floor must be completed within a fixed time.
