NOTES:

  • Developed by Nintendo R&D2.
  • Kenji Miki, who took development charge of most of the R&D2 projects, was the game director.
  • Tadashi Sugiyama created the main characters "Popo" and "Nana".
  • The four songs featured in the game were composed by Akito Nakatsuka, who wrote the music in assembly using a sound engine by Yukio Kaneoka.
  • Ice Climber is the first video game programmed by Kazuaki Morita. He considered this a "warm-up" before becoming a main programmer on Super Mario Bros.
  • The same team developed both the NES/FCS Ice Climber and VS. Ice Climber which released a few months earlier in the arcades.
  • The arcade version, VS. Ice Climber, has an animated title screen, a stage select menu at the start of the game and between levels, 16 more mountains, occasional blizzard and wind effects, more enemy characters, and bonus multiplier items.
  • There was a late 1988 port of the arcade exclusive VS. Ice Climber for the Famicom Disk System in Japan.
