Metal, I think that's a complete mistranslation. If you read the context of the quote, it sounds more like Miyamoto is saying Tezuka was a director and Konno was a map director of previous Super Mario Bros. games.
I believe Tezuka and Konno are producers. Miyamoto being senior or general producer. The game may also have 3 directors, since Miyamoto made it seem like the three game modes were done by small teams. Yugo Hayashi has to be a director of some type.

That's just the back-end developers if you read the interview. Which is a big team involved in all the iOS/Android games. They have a 30+ development team from Nintendo and DeNA that developed the back-end system/servers for Miitomo, Fire Emblem, and Super Mario Run.
Takemoto is the lead server developer from the Nintendo side for example. The real game team was EPD/SRD again. The server team was Nintendo/NNSD/Dena and now Google sort of on this one.
