This has been brought up before, but Nintendo usually likes to release a new title in North America/Worldwide the week before Black Friday:
2012 - New Super Mario Bros. U / Nintendo Land
2013 - Super Mario 3D World / The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
2014 - Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
2015 - Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash / Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
2016 - Pokemon Sun and Moon
2017 - Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon
2018 - Pokemon: Let’s Go! Pikachu & Let’s Go! Eevee
2019 - N/A
2020 - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (published by Nintendo outside of Japan)
2021 - Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
2022 - Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
2023 - Super Mario RPG
Pokemon Sword & Shield were released two weeks before Black Friday 2019. The only Nintendo-related event that I can find that happened the week before (22nd November) was the Nintendo Tokyo store opening. Maybe there was some bundle released on that on that date too?
Even without Pokemon, something usually fills this slot. If we take the current release schedule for 2024 as final, then this would be the second exception in twelve years. Switch 2 will likely be out by this time next year, but Nintendo even managed to do this in 2015 with the Wii U in dire straits and no mainline Pokemon game.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership releases on 7th November. Even Dragon Quest III HD-2D, which was given a spotlight at the last Direct, is releasing two weeks before the holiday on 14th November and it's not even being published by Nintendo outside of Japan this time.
So…another rare exception or potentially something else in November? There are more Direct rumour swirling around recently, but those are rarely reliable.
