Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 is a turn-based RPG strategy game released in 1999 exclusively in Japan for the Nintendo Power Distribution Service, and six months later as a standard release for the Super Nintendo. During each turn, a character from each battalion is selected to make a move across a grid designed map. Battles are handled automatically depending on the characters turn, position, and statistics. Gain experience during battles and upgrade each character's weapons to stand a better chance If a character falls in battle then they are gone for good, but if the lead protagonist is defeated then the game is over. Lead the hero army to the enemy base and defeat the general in each map to successfully advance. New additions to this installment include a dismount, capture, and rescue feature.

The story takes place during the latter half of the previous game Fire Emblem: Genealogy Of The Holy War and slightly before the year Gran 776. Leaf, the son of the fallen Prince Cuan of Lenster (taken by surprise by the Dragon Riders of the Kingdom of Thracia under the command of King Trabant), is seeking to restore the Kingdom of Lenster as the story begins.
